Editorial standards for WMAA Class Reunion Newsletters

- Purpose and Audience
Primary Goal: Foster a sense of community, celebrate achievements and keep alumni informed on relevant updates about their medical school classmates.Target Audience: Alumni who earned their medical degree from the UW School of Medicine and Public Health (formerly the UW Medical School) in the same year or who have a documented preferred graduation year affiliated with that class.
- Tone and Style
Positive and Constructive: Highlight significant professional, academic and personal accomplishments and milestones.Concise: Aim for brevity without sacrificing clarity.
- Accuracy and Reliability
Review: All submissions will be reviewed to ensure accuracy, especially the spelling of alumni names.Updates and Corrections: If errors are discovered post-publication, WMAA will promptly issue a corrected digital reunion newsletter.
- Content Guideline
Third-Party Organizations: In alignment with university policies (policy UW-205 and policy UW-206), WMAA reunion newsletters will not suggest or imply university support or endorsement of any company, product, political candidate, or position regarding public policies, political movement, activity, or program.In Memoriam: WMAA will acknowledge members of the class who have died by providing a list of those names in the reunion newsletter. Alumni may report omissions to wmaa@med.wisc.edu. - Submissions
Editorial Review: All submissions will undergo an editorial review process to ensure they align with the standards and purpose of the reunion newsletter.Clarity: Ensure that submissions are clear and complete. - Ethics and Privacy
Alumni Consent: WMAA will only publish updates submitted by alumni directly. Names of classmates who do not submit an update will be included, but no other personal information will be included in the reunion newsletter. WMAA will respect requests to be removed from the reunion newsletter if made.
- Deadlines and Publication Schedule
Timeliness: Submissions must be received in advance of publication deadlines.Publication Frequency: WMAA will produce a reunion newsletter (or digital equivalent) for every five-year milestone reunion between the 5th and 65th reunion.
- Formatting and Design
Readability: WMAA will prioritize clear formatting and accessibility (policy UW-519) when designing reunion newsletters.
- Feedback and Engagement
Engagement: WMAA encourages feedback from alumni to improve content and address any concerns or suggestions.These standards ensure that reunion newsletters remain professional, informative and community-centered publications that alumni look forward to reading.
